My name is Minku Han. I'm a graphic designer in Waterloo, Ontario, with about six years across in-house, startup, and freelance work. Most of my favourite moments in this job have been small ones. A client seeing their sign go up for the first time. A coworker using a template without any trouble or wasted time. A small business owner carrying their brand on their own after the project ends. I like that design can quietly make someone's day a little easier, and that has always been the part I love most about it.
At NIC Systems I led design through a full brand relaunch, working closely with the content manager to understand what she needed to communicate and shaping that into creative assets that carried a consistent visual identity across the parent company and its two sub-brands. Before that I was Lead Designer at Rent Panda, creating brand assets for social, print, event booths, and walkthrough video, with two design interns and creative direction from the social media manager and CMO. And before both, I worked as a freelance designer, independently managing end-to-end brand and design projects for 10+ clients across 6+ industries, consulting directly with clients to define scope and direction from initial brief through final delivery.
My approach to design starts with asking "why." I believe strong design goes beyond visuals. It requires a deep understanding of both business goals and user needs. By stepping into the user's perspective, I create work that is functional, intuitive, and meaningful. Whether I'm refining a brand identity or developing marketing materials, I bring empathy, curiosity, and a problem-solving mindset to every project.
For my academic background, I studied Global Business and Digital Arts at the University of Waterloo, graduating with Dean's Honours, with an exchange term at City University of Hong Kong. It's where I learned to think about design and business as one conversation rather than two.
Right now I'm freelancing, helping clients turn their ideas into creative solutions. I'm also looking for a design role on a team, somewhere I can bring my skills and make an impact with a team.
